Kindergarten

Rules of Behavior

  1. Raise your hand
  2. Walk in the classroom
  3. Sharing is caring
  4. Remain silent while the teacher or your classmates are talking
  5. Be respectful of others

Strategies to Redirect Behavior

Verbal - If a student is drawing on the desk, ask them nicely to use the pencil on the paper (try to be proactive — strive to seek out the behavior before it occurs)

Physical - Child is not putting away his toys so give him a gentle touch and direct them where the toys are supposed to be

With a cue - If students are talking tell them to touch their nose

With proximal attention - If a child is eating glue and you walk close to them they might realize they should not be eating it

3) Keep your hands to yourself

4) Raise your hand

5) Use your inside voice

Strategies to Redirect Behavior

4 Scenarios:

1) Verbal: Who can sit down the fastest?

2) Physical: If a kid is holding scissors the wrong way, gentle touch to show him/her how to hold the scissors safely.

3) Cue: When you want kids to be quiet hold your finger to your mouth.

4) Proximal: I love how ___David___ is sitting on the floor quietly and paying attention. Great job!

How would the Action Plan affect the behavior management of your classroom?

Having an action plan leads to more preparedness. Although you can never know all the possible situations you will face, having an action plan will help you become more prepared. If you lose control of the situation and room, it very negatively impacts learning for the students so having action plans to be proactive and prevent that is necessary.

2nd Grade Rules of Behavior:

  • Hold hands while walking to prevent running
A cue
  • Finger to lip and other hand up in piece sign
Proximal Attention
  • Two students in the back of class talking, if we just begin to walk towards them then they will stop
